Strengthen the lower body & stretch your legs, hips, & more with Revolved Side Angle Pose…
Revolved Side Angle Pose (Parivrtta Parsvakonasana), also known as Lunge Prayer Twist Pose, Twisted Side Angle Pose, Rotated Side Angle Pose, or Revolved Crescent Lunge with Prayer Hands – is an intermediate-level standing yoga pose that offers a stretch for the legs, hips, and shoulders, while strengthening the legs and ankles, hips, glutes, and back muscles. It also helps to improve balance and mobility, and is thought to enhance focus and concentration. Traditionally, the pose is believed to stimulate digestion, massage the internal organs, and balance the Heart Chakra.
To modify the pose, you may rest your lower hand on a block and stretch your other arm above your head. This can help if you have trouble balancing in the pose with your palms pressed together.
Those with herniated discs, abdominal hernia, or any recent surgery or injuries to the ankles, shoulders, wrists, knees, pelvis, knees, or spine should avoid this pose. Pregnant women and those who suffer from vertigo should also skip this one.
How to Do Revolved Side Angle Pose:
- Start in Low Lunge Pose with your left foot forward.
Inhale, come up and press your palms together at your chest. Exhale, bring your right elbow to the outside of your left thigh and twist to the left.
Tuck your back toes, and lift your right knee off the mat.
Try to hold the pose still for 3-5 deep breaths.
- Untwist the body and come standing upright, then switch legs and repeat on the other side.
