[Weekly Workout] 15-Minute Prenatal Morning Yoga

Loosen up and ease aches and pains with this gentle 15-minute prenatal morning yoga class…

Just because you’re pregnant doesn’t mean you have to give up yoga! In fact, yoga is great for pregnant women, and can help you maintain strength and flexibility throughout your pregnancy which may help with both labor and delivery, and post-natal recovery. It is important to take some precautions when doing yoga while pregnant, but as long as you listen to your body and modify as needed, yoga can be very beneficial for you throughout your pregnancy and beyond. (Be sure to consult with your doctor to make sure yoga is appropriate for you before you start.)

There are lots of good prenatal yoga classes and videos to give you some inspiration for your practice. For example, the 15-minute prenatal morning yoga routine below is perfect for those mornings when you feel stiff and achy and have trouble getting going. It will help to release tension from your neck, shoulders, hips, and lower back, and may ease some of the lower back pain that is common later in pregnancy.

This session is generally appropriate for all 3 trimesters, but of course ask your healthcare provider first if you feel unsure, and always, always, always listen to your body and stop, back off, or modify if something doesn’t feel right.

Enjoy!
